Project Location

Camotes Islands

Hi, my name is Mitchell and I was born in New Zealand. I have been living in the Philippines for 5 years  and soon after moving to this beautiful country I was desperate for good food. You may know Filipinos love their food sweet and the same goes for the bread.  I searched the internet to find out how to make bread and bacon and in the mean time found more people who had the same desires as me. That's when I started making my own food. I had no cooking background but the feedback from my clients was extremely positive and so it appeared I have a talent in cooking.

I opened my first restaurant on Bantayan island and people really appreciated our food but then typhoon Yolanda happened and everything went to pieces. I tried to make it work but eventually moved to Camotes Islands. I needed a fresh start.

Now we are in this beautiful peaceful location where we're renting two rooms for backpackers and we made a small restaurant with couple of tables and chairs which we want to upgrade. We also want to make deliveries around the island and Cebu city. We make our own bread (white, whole meal, sour dough, with herbs and more), ham, bacon, sausage, cream cheese and sauces, and we're always interested in trying new recipes. We use manual and traditional methods and it seems to produce better food and as the business grows, it will provide local employment rather than to upgrade to high tech machinery.

What we need?

We have a small restaurant started but we want to consolidate our equipment to improve consistency and build stock levels. We will be needing total of $6250 to start our project. It will be spent for good refrigerator ($750), funds to deliver our existing oven and freezer from Bantayan island to Camotes ($200), coffee maker to provide good quality coffee ($400), vehicle repair for our existing two motorbikes and a car (to make our deliveries and supplies done quick and to provide transport for guests) ($1500), upgrade aluminum to stainless cooking wares and utensils for safety ($625), weighing scales ($100), gas bottles ($100), industrial blender for general use ($250), cheese presser to make stunning cheeses ($75), microwave oven for heat and eat ($175), tables and chairs ($375), internet access to provide fast and reliable internet for guests ($375), printer for paperworks ($200), entertainment such as snorkeling masks, pool table, cards, darts, volleyball etc ($375) and funds for stocks ($750).

About

I’m Mitchell McCardle, born and raised in Raglan, New Zealand and for the past five years I have been living in the Philippines. I’m probably one of the last old school Kiwis and proud father of two daughters. I have done a lot of things in my life like designing machineries and chemicals, electronics engineering, I was a comprehensive nurse, registered master painter, had my own business restoring homes and furnitures, and owned a restaurant.
I like to solve problems on my own, I seek information and I create answers. If I want to do something, I make it happen. I actively interact with the world around me and as a result I make mistakes on an daily basis. It’s ok, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t make progress. Learning new things is the primary interest of my life and if meet people with great knowledge, I listen, I learn, and make the best of it.
I live my life to the best way I can and I try to, when possible, leave a positive footprint behind on my journey through life. That's it. That's a small fraction of who I am.
