Project Location

Palawan, MIMAROPA, Philippines

The Kaibigan Soul Camp constructions are almost finished! We will open the camp in January 2017. After monsoon we will complete the building - September until December. And now we do need your help & support:

  • spread the word
  • become a funder

What are the goals?

With your assistance we will built two hillside cottages. One of the two cottages - and that's the clou - will be free of charge for any traveler at anytime! To be fair to everybody: maximum free stay for three nights.

The cottages are good for up to 4 people and situated hillside with bedroom, additional loftbed, terrace and open air comfort rooms. At sunset and during “golden hour” – late afternoon – you will lay in your hammock overlooking the camp area with a beautiful view over Cabuyao bay.

Why should you support this project?

You can make it possible that young traveler, people or families with small budget can join the Kaibigan Soul Camp for a while - from the crowd for the crowd.

Moreover a successful crowd-funding campaign can build a vital momentum! Reaching our target signifies relevance and shows that the idea of "free of charge cottages" is great.

How will the money be spent after a successful funding?

We do support local labor in Cabuyao and villages in the neighborhood (Labtay, Napsan and Aporawan). With the funding we will pay all the workers on the construction site, buy and transport all materials to built two cottages. We estimate that we will employ about 30 workers for 12 weeks. Carpenter, wriggler, electrician, plumber and helping hands.

How will the money be spent if the campaign does not reach its total funding goal?

This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal. In relation to the original funding goal we have to adjust the building plans depending on the reached amount.

For example for 2/3rd of the money (8.000 USD) we will build only one cottage but with 2 separate rooms sharing one bathroom - one of the rooms free of charge to any traveler at any time. Or for 1/2 of the original funding goal (6.000 USD) we will built only one cottage which will be free of charge to any traveler on 3 days a week.

What is Kaibigan Soul Camp about?

In Tagalog, the language of the Philippines, the word “Kaibigan” means "friendship" or "amorous liaison", depending on how it is pronounced.

Both translations reflect our relationship to foreign countries and cultures. The term also symbolises a sense of togetherness, which is very important to us. Our undertaking would never have succeeded without the help of many friends. Their personal input on location, as well as their experience and suggestions, were full of valuable information and advice. This energy can be felt everywhere and is one reason for the very positive vibe in the camp.

  • LOCATION

We are located on the west coast of Palawan as the only resort in the Bay of Cabuyao, a small fishing village 60 km from Puerto Princesa airport. The hour-long journey alone is an experience: A mix of country roads and off-roads, traveling through the beautiful jungle to the other side of the island (Napsan-Apurawan Rd, Cabuyao, Palawan, Philippines, 9°41‘40.5“N 118°25‘11.0“E).

  • STREET ART

As street art is very close to our hearts it will be a vital part of the Kaibigan Soul Camp. We especially appreciate artists who deploy their creative skills to interpret socially relevant content and send their message in their individual language of art. Given the diversity of recognition of street art in various countries we want to support and encourage by establishing a small platform for connecting, exchanging and networking with each other.

  • LAID BACK

Enjoy delicious food and positive vibes during your much longed-for timeout. Experience relaxing tranquillity and adventurous activities! Find peace of mind away from western civilisation and far from mobile phone reception or internet signals.

  • DEEP SLEEP

Our guests live in individually designed accommodations suited to different budgets and tastes. A five-room longhouse, two beach villas, two open huts and bamboo tents as well as the new two hillside cottages are perfect homes for couples, small groups, families and long-term travelers. Sea view, terrace, hammocks and charming details included.

  • GOOD FOOD

We cook slow food, mainly vegetarian, with seasonal, regional ingredients. The Philippine cuisine is creatively supplemented with our own ideas and experience. Enjoy delicious meals with the typical "Kaibigan taste": sunset barbecues with freshly caught fish, home-baked bread, lemonades, daiquiris and fresh coconut water from our palm trees. You want more: share a cooking session in our outdoor kitchen with open fireplaces.

  • GOOD MOOD

People who come to Kaibigan Soul Camp find real adventure, sustainable recreation and an original ambience. We offer yoga and cooking courses, organize guided jungle tours, boat trips and basketball games with the village team. Try a very authentic way of exploring and paddle the bay of Cabuyao with a little baruto boat. You simply want to relax? Do this at any time in various chill-out areas on the beach or in our garden.

Who is behind the project?

We — Elizabeth Cardozo, Pascale Hartmann, Silke Zenker and Gela Zenker — were all born at the end of the 70s and have been friends for more than 10 years. We know each other, our skills and competences, which complement one another perfectly in this project. Each one of us brings many years of professional experience in key positions to the project. The areas of responsibility are clearly defined:

  • Guest relations, tour management and personnel
  • Gastronomy and rentals
  • Sales and marketing
  • Project management and controlling

The grounds in Cabuyao belong to the Cardozo family. In 2014, we made the collective decision about running a resort and restaurant there. Since then we have been travelling to Cabuyao frequently, planning and preparing the project Kaibigan Soul Camp.

The first building phase began in 2015. In December 2016 we will hold a “friends and family” month, in order to express our thanks, test the running of the camp and also to create the optimum preconditions for the official opening in January 2017.

Thank you all!
