The story behind...

Slavko, Simon's grandpa was born in Robidisce about 100 years ago, when this was still a very lively village with 290 inhabitants, 6 pubs and even a school. Like many others he built his house on his own - stone-cutting skills were usual for the area. Village remoteness and hard life have forced most of young people to leave poor life in the village and move to the cities. After the second world war the village had less than one quarter of its inhabitants left, the school closed, there were no more newborns since all the young people left. But grandpa Slavko was a stubborn man and he stayed in the village, despite the hard conditions, until his death about 20 years ago. This is a very important fact as Simon was a lot in his company and Slavko taught him to respect the cultural heritage.

As a student Simon was organizing many activities in the village, such as voluntary work camps where people from all around came and helped old inhabitants. This is how he we met. We both liked the same things.

About 8 years ago we inherited ruined stable that has belonged to the house. We were not sure what to do with it, but were young and crazy enough to dream about renovating it into a nice Summer house. Then the opportunity came and we could bought another ruined stable just nearby and started to renovate. In several years we managed to open two Holiday houses and offered them to guests from all around the globe, who were looking for quiet but active holidays.

About us...

Visiting Robidisce is like revisiting the past. And that is exactly how we feel as well. We are proud to have turned a new life in this once forgotten village, renovated the torn down houses and created something that only a while ago might have seemed impossible.

Simon firmly believes that life should not be just about taking, but about leaving something behind as well. He made sure we "recycled" the houses and he makes sure that everything is in order at all times. He takes care of the heavier farm chores and sometimes he surprises us by barbecuing delicious food in the garden. He represents the hands of the house.

Staša is the head of the family. She captures moments in time and space and makes sure they are not forgotten. You might find her baking or cooking at the house or guiding a group of curious visitors around the village, lovingly describing the beauty of its historical spirit.

Little Anuša is a smart and open-minded eight-year old girl. She creates exhibitions of drawings or painted pebbles and sometimes she might be the one to assume the role of the village guide, confidently passing on everything she has learned in her short life so far. When she grows up, she will take over mom's and grandma's work.

Her four-years old brother Janez puts on his little boots and makes sure we always have plenty of fresh eggs at the house. He feeds the chickens and supplies his thirsty gardeners with fresh water. He knows both parsley and basil and always brings the right herb. When he grows up, he will take over dad's and grandpa's work.

Nataša Dana is a new family member. So far she more or less just sleeps, but it will be interesting to see what path she will choose... And those are farmhouses’s legs going to the future.

State of the art...

Annually we now have about 500 overnights, majority over the Summer. Out of the main season we organize non profit activities such as stone-cutting workshops.

So far we are happy with the Summer season and we have got great remarks in our guest books which proved us that our effort had sense. Many of our guests are coming back in the Summer and we often ask and evaluate with them what we could do better. What else could we offer to our guests for more comfort?

The place is located in the mountains and the Summer season is short. As we have no central heating, the houses are not suitable for the winter and even in the Summer it can suddenly become cold and rainy! Sauna? Great idea! Let's make it the way that we connect the heating system to the houses, so we can also heat the houses and prolong our season!

And just nearby where we have this empty space, perfect for Sauna and Spa, we have a little gallery. If heated, it could be a great place to meet, read a book or see a movie. Alone, with family or with friends. Hmm, children could play in it while the parents are in the Sauna!

For several years now we are developing this ideas, but have never had enough funds. The investments for the renovation were far higher as planned. The season is short. That is why we would really need your support. And we are more than happy to pay back with a nice and fair rewards.

With a bit of sensual planning and with a help from your side, we can make it great!!

How would we invest your money...

We first have to prepare the place: repairing old stoned walls, putting ceramics on the floor, bringing electricity and water in. According to pre-calculations this will cost about 4200 EUR.

Then we have to make the central heating system, so that the place is warmed. The costs for the material and outsourced working costs are about 5000 EUR.

Then we have furnish the Mini Spa with Sauna, toilette, shower and wooden furniture. All to subtle emotions and pleasure... Another high investment, according to pre-calculations for material and outsourced working costs about 4500 EUR.

In the room nearby we need to bring electricity and furnish it with a comfortable chairs in different corners: one to read, one to play. We will use local wood and will do a lot of the things by ourselves. So the predicted costs are no more than 500 EUR.

About

37 years old, a mother of three lively kids, a bit tired of daily routine travelling to the office to work behind the computer, have always dreamed of having my own guesthouse. Luckily, while studying, I met Simon with similar life-values and so we started. In 10 years of hard work mostly over the weekends we now have three old culturally protected houses renovated and we offer them to guests from all over the world. Many of them are coming back, so we know that we are on the right track. Meanwhile in the low-season we are organizing different non-profit camps and workshops, one of the most famous is a stone-cutting workshop in Robidisce. It is fun! However, the season here is short so we still have to combine the business with regular job. And this was the main reason while we don't stop but dream on...
